The Landing could easily be mistaken as a modern day Twilight Zone episode or a Documentary Now parody piece due to its’ uniqueness. It is a story of Apollo 18, the last moon exploration mission in 1973, an event that, despite its place as one of the most disturbing episodes of the space race, was nevertheless all but ignored during the emerging Watergate scandal. Returning from a successful lunar landing mission, NASA’s Apollo 18 suffered a computer error that forced command-module pilot Bo Cunningham to take manual control of the spacecraft to make an emergency landing in the remote Takla Makan desert of western China. This film is one part American lure and other part mystery piece. With solid pacing, in-depth coverage, and great score this films comes off more like a rock doc then a historic recording. Your interest in the space program and its’ history will increase 1000 times after watching this piece.
